Tartan Yachts is seeking a full-time Carpenter / Finish Joiner responsible for the fabrication, fitting, and installation of interior and exterior woodwork aboard Tartan Yachts sailboats. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate interior cabinetry, joinery, trim pieces, and sole panels from teak, mahogany, cherry, and engineered marine substrates using shop equipment
- Fit and install overhead liners, side panels, furniture modules, doors, and drawers to production specifications
- Cut, fit, and install teak and holly sole systems; perform spline work, sanding, and finishing as required
- Fabricate and install exterior teak trim including toerails, cockpit grating, coaming cappings, and handrails
- Apply varnish, oil, and protective finishes to interior and exterior wood surfaces; perform surface preparation and multi-coat finishing schedules
- Produce and fit custom joinery elements from shop drawings; work with templates and patterns for repeatable production components
- Bed and install hatches, portlights, handrails, and deck fittings with proper sealants and fastening
- Perform repair and remediation of joinery defects identified during quality inspection
- Operate and maintain shop woodworking equipment including table saw, bandsaw, planer, router, and spindle sander safely
- Maintain a clean, organized shop environment and comply with all dust and finish safety requirements
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of fine woodworking, marine joinery, or cabinet-making experience
- Marine joinery or boatbuilding experience strongly preferred; familiarity with teak, mahogany, and marine plywoods
- Proficiency with a full range of shop woodworking machinery and portable power tools
- Ability to read and work from shop drawings, cut sheets, and production specifications
- Demonstrated skill in varnish application, wood finishing, and surface preparation
- High standards of fit, finish, and attention to aesthetic detail
- Experience with marine bedding compounds, sealants, and fastening methods preferred
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces and overhead positions
- Completion of a cabinetmaking, woodworking, or marine trades program a plus
