Assembly Line Technician

Job Overview

Tartan Yachts is seeking a full-time Assembly Line Technician who performs the installation and fit-out of systems, hardware, and interior components on Tartan Yachts production sailboats as they move through the final assembly process. This role demands versatility, a high standard of workmanship, and the ability to execute multiple trade disciplines — mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and joinery — within defined production cycles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Install mechanical systems including steering systems, engine and drive train components, seacocks, through-hulls, fuel tanks, and exhaust systems
  • Install 12V DC and 120V AC electrical systems: wire runs, panel installation, battery systems, bilge pumps, navigation lights, and instrumentation
  • Plumb fresh water, raw water, holding tank, and bilge systems; pressure test all plumbing circuits
  • Fit and install interior joinery, cabinetry, berths, sole panels, and upholstered components per production drawings
  • Install deck hardware including cleats, winches, tracks, blocks, clutches, and lifeline systems per rigging plans
  • Install hatches, portlights, companionway systems, and associated bedding and fastening
  • Conduct pre-launch functional testing of all installed systems and document results on production checklists
  • Identify and report defects, fit issues, or design concerns to the Production Manager for resolution
  • Maintain a clean and organized assembly station; follow tool accountability and 5S practices
  • Support boat launch, commissioning, and sea trial preparation activities
  • Cross-train in adjacent assembly stations to support production flexibility

Qualifications / Requirements 

  • Minimum 2 years of marine production assembly, boatbuilding, or multi-trade service experience
  • Demonstrated competency in at least two of the following areas: marine electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or joinery
  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings, assembly manuals, and wiring schematics
  • ABYC certification in electrical, systems, or mechanical a significant plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment
  • Detail-oriented approach to fitting, fastening, and finishing in a production environment
  • Ability to work at production pace within a team-oriented assembly line structure
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined vessel spaces in various positions
  • Valid driver’s license required
