Sailboat Rigger

Job Overview

Riverfront Marine is seeking a full-time Sailboat Rigger who is responsible for the inspection, installation, tuning, and repair of standing and running rigging on sail-powered vessels. Working both on the dock and aloft, this position requires a strong technical background in rigging systems, hardware, and sail trim, as well as a commitment to safety and craftsmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Inspect, measure, and replace standing rigging including shrouds, stays, and forestays on a wide range of sailboat types and sizes
  • Install and service running rigging: halyards, sheets, reefing lines, furling systems, and associated hardware
  • Climb masts using bosun’s chair or mechanical ascenders to perform aloft work including spreader replacement, masthead fitting repairs, and light/instrument installation
  • Step and unstep masts using yard crane in coordination with crane operator; ensure proper tuning and alignment upon re-stepping
  • Rig and tension standing rigging to manufacturer and owner specifications; adjust and tune rig for sailing performance
  • Service, inspect, and replace blocks, clutches, winches, furling systems, traveler systems, and other deck hardware
  • Splice wire and line including Sta-Lok, swaged, and mechanical end fittings; perform hand splicing and modern synthetic line work
  • Identify and communicate additional service needs or safety concerns to service writers
  • Maintain an organized and safe work area; properly store rigging components and hardware
  • Accurately document labor and materials on work orders in a timely manner
  • Assist other departments as needed during peak periods

Qualifications / Requirements 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sailboat rigging or a closely related marine trade
  • Demonstrated ability to work aloft safely; comfortable climbing to masthead heights
  • Proficiency with wire and synthetic line splicing and terminal installation techniques
  • Working knowledge of sailboat systems including spar design, deck hardware, and sail handling equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret rigging plans and manufacturer installation guides
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in confined spaces, at heights, and in variable weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license required; forklift certification a plus
  • Familiarity with major rigging manufacturers (Navtec, Selden, Harken, Lewmar, Furlex) preferred

Salary: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
