
Job Overview
Riverfront Marine is seeking a full-time Marine Engine Technician who diagnoses, services, and repairs outboard engines, sterndrive systems, and inboard gasoline or diesel powerplants. This position requires factory-level diagnostic proficiency, a systematic approach to troubleshooting, and the ability to deliver thorough, high-quality repairs while meeting customer expectations and service deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on outboard engines across all major brands and horsepower ranges
- Service and repair sterndrive systems including upper and lower units, bellhousing components, and shift/throttle cables
- Conduct scheduled maintenance including winterization, commissioning, fuel system service, and impeller/belt/fluid changes
- Diagnose and repair fuel injection, ignition, and electronic engine management systems using factory scan tools and software
- Inspect, test, and repair marine electrical systems associated with engine operation: batteries, charging systems, starters, and instrumentation
- Perform propeller inspections and minor propeller work; coordinate major propeller repairs with qualified shops
- Complete warranty repairs in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and claim submission requirements
- Accurately document all diagnostic findings, labor operations, and parts used on work orders
- Communicate effectively with service writers regarding diagnosis findings, required authorizations, and estimated completion
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly dispose of waste fluids and materials
- Attend factory training schools and maintain required certifications
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in marine engine service; outboard experience required
- Factory certification from one or more major manufacturers (Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki) strongly preferred
- Proficiency with electronic diagnostic systems and scan tools specific to marine applications
- Strong working knowledge of 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboard technology
- Experience with gasoline inboard and/or diesel marine engines a significant plus
- ABYC certification (engine systems or electrical) a plus
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple open repair orders simultaneously
- Strong customer service orientation when interfacing with boat owners
- Ability to lift 75 lbs, work in confined engine compartments, and perform physical labor in variable conditions
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to operate vessels for sea trials preferred
Salary: Competitive flat-rate or hourly compensation based on experience and certifications.
